It all started with a rushed lunch date in June 2013. Jenn had a Vacation Bible School meeting that afternoon. Little did we know that day how much our lives would soon change. Mike’s cousin found out the age that Jenn was teaching and just happened to have a boy that age. His cousin dropped her son off and introduced herself to Jenn.
The following week we would text back and forth but didn’t have a chance to see each other. Mike reached out to Jenn for a cookout and to watch fireworks for July 4th and she agreed to come over. That day Mike had two of his three kids for the weekend and Jenn was able to meet them.
As we were sitting on a blanket on the ground to watch fireworks Jenn reached to hold Mike’s hand. She would later find out that he was somewhat surprised by this but tried not to let his nervousness show. After the fireworks Mike walked Jenn to her car and was debating on kissing her. He figured the worst that could happen was a knee to the gut. It was a nice first kiss and they said good night. Needless to say neither of us got much sleep that night as the events of the day kept rolling over in our minds.
We began spending time together in the evenings after both of us got off work. Most evenings would be sitting and watching shows on TV. We went on other dates during the rest of July that year.
We then agreed that we would date only each other and see how things went. Little did either of us know at that point how our lives would become one. The summer went by like a whirlwind and it soon turned to fall.
By the time October came around Mike had decided that he wanted Jenn to be in my life for the rest of his life. We went out to dinner one night and I proposed. The moment she said “Yes” will be a moment we will never forget .
We had engagement photo’s taken soon after that. There is one of Mike down on one knee looking up at Jenn. Tears started to show in her eyes when she said “This is really happening isn’t it?”
Then the work of planning a wedding got started. The most important thing for Mike was to make sure Jenn got the wedding she wanted. We decided on an outside wedding at a park with a beach theme. When Mike saw her for the first time in her wedding dress and how beautiful she looked that day he almost fell over.
We recently celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary and have the rest of our lives to be together.
We have two wonderful fur babies who keep us on our toes. We have three adult children and a son-in-law (Mike’s biologically and Jenn’s bonus).
We are the cliché opposites attract. Mike is a rocker and Jenn is a country girl. Mike used to watch football and Jenn is all about baseball. Jenn is optimistic and Mike is pessimistic. Jenn tends to be more social at times with people she knows. Jenn is medical and Mike is a techie.
We are each other’s biggest supporter and voice of reason when needed. We see the best in each other even when they cannot see it themselves.
Mike is Jenn’s motivation, strength and the love of her life.
Jenn is Mike’s dream come true, best friend and the love of his life.
We give each other reasons to keep fighting whatever life throws at us. Our life may be crazy at times but as long as we have each other we know we’ll make it through.
